WHAT DO WE OFFER?
For a standard fee of only £15 we offer a personalised, individual appointment with one of our trained staff. During this appointment you will be asked various questions about your sporting/medical background and asked to undergo a series of short physical tests (nothing too demanding!). We will then use the results of these questions and tests in conjunction with our MotionQuest software package to offer you information, advice and recommendations regarding:
- suggested footwear (nb unlike some others, our software package is independent of all footwear brands so recommendations are unbiased)
- suggested orthotic-style insoles (Footdisc)
- your running style
- exercises to improve your strength & flexibility
- sports injuries you may have had or currently have
This information will be summarised for you to take away for reference in the form of a computer generated printout.
The final part of the appointment is the opportunity to have your running style filmed and analysed on the computer (Video Gait Analysis). Usually this will involve comparing your running efficiency in two or more different models (perhaps your old shoes or even barefoot and one or more of those recommended by the MotionQuest software). Often quite significant improvements can be seen when using a more suitable shoe (ideally in conjunction with the appropriate Footdisc insole) thus reducing the chances of injury.
When your appointment is finished, you are welcome to browse our product range without obligation. However, should you choose to make a purchase on the day of consultation, then your fee is reduced as follows:
- spend over £100 and the full £15 fee will be deducted
- spend over £50 and the fee is halved to £7.50 (nb: your purchase can combine shoes, clothing and/or equipment)
It is recommended that running shoes (and other sports footwear) are replaced every 500 – 1000 miles. For most people this equates to roughly annual replacement. If you leave us your e mail address (on your booking form) we will notify you 11 months after your appointment to arrange another. Much can change over time (eg degeneration of the arches), so we recommend a follow-up appointment at least bi-annually.
All advice is given in good faith and to the best of our ability but no guarantees (of injury free running for example) can ever be given. Injuries can occur for many reasons such as excessive training, inappropriate footwear, insufficient stretching or just bad luck. Furthermore, biomechanics is not an exact science and is open to interpretation. Appointments are made on the strict condition and understanding that no responsibility will be accepted by us under any circumstances. This does not affect your statutory rights.
For a more thorough investigation of your biomechanical issues and injury treatment, we recommend that you consult a recognised "Sports Injury Practitioner". We have an approved list of local practitioners if you would like a recommendation.
